Twenty years after the explosion of the nuclear power station in Chernobyl, today located in Ukraine, a large section of Belarus will remain contaminated for centuries and certain parts of Europe will still be marked by the disaster for years to come.

We discover how Europe reacted at the time and what is the attitude today towards the country that was worst hit: Belarus, a land where food "safety" isn't entirely guaranteed and where the medical controversy continues. We'll see how, if at all, the different countries and the EU, through its institutions, have learnt a lesson for the future from this disaster and how energy policy has evolved.
