Their appearance is so horrific that they were still considered in the last century as sea monster. However the up to twelve-metre-long basking sharks are peaceful plankton eaters and near to extinction. Only 8000 –so estimated- swim as restless vagabonds through the oceans. Nobody knows where and when they appear!
The film accompanies the biologists Jackie and Graham Hall to the last places where the giants could still be found. Their research is a journey from the water surface to the the abyss on a very special place: the Isle of Man. The restless scientists want to find out, when and where the giants move on their feed search and where they mate. Only if theese secrets are disclosed they can be protected.
