The Frank Warrior

If we now bear the name of "French" it’s precisely because some of our ancestors were called Franks! However, these warriors were initially "barbarians" which translates as "foreigners" in ancient Greek, i.e. people of an unknown language. They were Germanic peoples, having distinguished themselves by their weapons and outstanding warriors. At times, these mercenaries also fought for the Roman Empire. When the latter faltered, they chose to "go it alone" and conquer Gaul!

Clovis, the first Christian king of the Franks, set out to conquer new territories at the end of the 5th century A.D. At that time Clovis did not have a regular army, for lack of resources. He did however, possess a small but "professional" army, which he did not hesitate to expand during his military campaigns by recruiting every available man of fighting age (15 years of age).
