Plank reveals new images on stars creation

01.06.2010

Launched in May 2009, Planck has not celebrated its first year in orbit yet, though it delivers significant results already.

The new images show under different angles the interstellar environment, the clustering of stars, clouds of gas and dust, revealing new aspects of our Galaxy.

Planck’s results will enable the scientists to understand the creation of the stars in the Milky Way as well as in the other galaxies in the Universe. Plank will also enable to go back to the childhood of the Universe, by giving us a pictured insight of what it was 380000 years after the Big Bang.

The collected datas will be released to the global scientific community around the end of 2012.

  • Right after the satellite's launching, the AST had organized for its members a Master Class on the Planck program.
