Our century

Directed by
Artavazd Pelechian

Documentary, Armenia, 1982, 50 min

Directed in 1982 by Armenian filmmaker Artavazd Pelechian, Our Century is a timeless film made up of archive images taken from various moments of the last century. The film does not follow a specific narrative but is more of a meditation on the space race, Man’s obsession with excess and his instinctive vocation of colonizing and occupying worlds. The astronauts’ faces distorted by weightlessness, images of war, monumental explosions, the first shots of the moon, the burning sun, bizarre experiments… Everything evokes impending doom. Fritz the Cat’s music illustrates both the poetry and frenzy of Pelechian’s images. On stage, two musicians, Yohan Landry and Damien Skoracki play, loop, tinker and accompany this reality, imitating and recording it… Loop pedals, guitars, drums, bass, computer all work together to create a music that takes the viewer away.
